Software that calculates cross sectional properties. The results obtained from Section can be used in a structural analysis. Section allows the user to create custom cross sections graphically using rectangular elements. Area, location of centroid, and moments of inertia (including principal moments of inertia) are automatically calculated. Original, centroidal,and principal axes can be toggled on and off. A grid is also available to aid in construction of the cross section.

This engineering calculator computes geometric properties (area, centroid, moment of inertia, etc.) of any polygon in XY plane (Polygonal section).

The following properties are calculated:

About XY axis:
• Area
• Centroid (x,y) coordinates
• Moment of Inertia about X-axis (Ixx)
• Moment of inertia about Y-axis (Iyy)
• Product of Inertia (Pxy)
• Polar Moment of Inertia (Jo)
• Radius of gyration about x-axis (Kx)
• Radius of gyration about y-axis (Ky)
• First Moment of Area about X-axis (Mx)
• First Moment of Area about Y-axis (My)

About X'Y' axis (centroid axis):
• Moment of Inertia about translated X'-axis (I'xx)
• Moment of Inertia about translated Y'-axis (I'yy)
• Product of Inertia about translated axis (P'xy)
• Polar Moment of Inertia about translated axis (Jo)
• Radius of gyration about translated X'-axis (Kx')
• Radius of gyration about translated Y'-axis (Ky')
