The narrative of the game plays off of the first and picks up on Max working back at the NYPD (for those who have not played MP, there is a short movie that revisits the content of the first game). As before, a significant portion of the story is delivered in graphic novel form, where comic book-like cells (with accompanying voiceovers) convey most of the plotline and develop the characters involved. The advances here are fairly slight, but enough to make note of. Foremost, the disrupting skipping (or machine pausing) in between pages that plagued audiences of the first game has been removed (along with the stop button that adorned the bottom letter box). Next, the artwork is less cartoon-like. Max looks like a real person in these scenes, not a caricature, winking incessantly at every happening throughout the game. This holds true for the rest of the characters as well. Lastly, the story itself is more cogent than that of MP. You’re more aware of why Max is where he is, and more importantly, what you are trying to accomplish while there.
