you can downgrade acer laptop vista to XP by the following steps:
With regard to the XP installation, this will format the system so the recovery partition will be deleted.
You can create a recovery CD before installing WinXP so you can revert back to Vista using this recovery CD even after installing Winxp, but recovery partition will not work anymore..
In Installing the SATA, you will need to use a USB floppy drive, not flash drive, it will not work...
All Drivers and applications are available from the down nload site.
Please download the SATA driver from the URL below:

and copy on a floppy which you need to give during the windows XP installation, the steps are below:
1. Insert the Windows XP CD and boot the system.
2. On the First Blue Screen press F6 to provide third party HDD/Storage Driver.
3. Provide the Driver from the Floppy drive.
Intel(R) 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH8M-E/M)
Intel(R) 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH7M/DH)
4. Follow the steps to create Partition and install OS.
All the necessary drivres for the laptop model Aspire ( 4710 ) are available form the link below.
