The Straight Path
There was a Masjid(1) in Florida , the first one in Windermere Province ; it was small with a few number of Muslims , coming from different Muslim country as economic migrants to get a job or more opportunities for a better life .
They suffered from persecution, discrimination, and racism; all American people have plenty of prejudice against Muslims.
USA is a democratic country as you can utter your opinion freely there. But after 2001 things started to change. No Muslim can deliver the Message of God anymore.
One day, when people were praying "Alfajr". An American entered the Masjid. His name was James. He looked of Middle-age, tall, white and he looked tired and sad. No one saw him in this place before.
After the Imam had finished, James came to him and asked:
_"Can you teach me the principles of Islam?"
_"with pleasure, sir. But would you tell us why you'd like to know Islam?" the
Imam replied.
_"It isn't important, just help me please" James said.
Day after day, James started to learn more and more about Islam. He began by studying the holy Quran and the Suna of the Prophet (peace be upon him), and he learnt the bases of Islam (shadatan, praying, fasting, zakat, haj) he felt the omnisence of god every time he was praying or fasting.
All people in the Masjid were astonished by his way of praying, he was very humble in his praying. He wept in every bow.
James was a mystery. No one was able to believe that a person would come and declare his Islam without discussion, even before having a simple idea about this religion.
Muslims in this Province felt inferior to James because he cried a lot in listening to the word of God. And because he was a white American he could send the message of God easily. His wife became a Muslim and his close friend did so .
One night after James had finished praying the Imam came to him and said:
_ "we are so glad to see you with us .But we need to know your story, please…."
_"which story?" James interrupted.
After hesitating, James accepted and started to recite:
"I was a Christian. I went every week to the church. And if I did a sin. I made a confession. I mulled all the time over my religion.
In christianism we have more than five versions of The Bible. Those books have plenty of contradictions and paradoxes.
For twenty years, every night I asked God for many hours to show me the right way.
One night. I sobbed and sobbed than I slept. And I dreamt of a bright space with a lot of light. suddenly , I saw Jesus Christ .He came to me very slowly and took my hand to guide me to a bright open door and he said : "this is The Straight Path , Islam. "I got up very frightened and went out of the house in order to look for a Masjid. To my sight, I found this one."
People cried after hearing this sensitive story. And all Muslims in Windermere dwelled with him in a close relationship.
In Friday, august 13, 2006 at the praying of "Lrasr" when James was bowing down he couldn't stand up more , that was his last prayer.
(1) I insist to use the word Masjid in lead of Mosque because it a Spanish word (Mosquito) that mean a small flying insect that sucks blood.
