Translation is not just concerned with English major. Almost every bransh of science involves translation in one way or another
here I would like to concentrate on technica ltranslation, the meaning of technical translation , the problems that face translators when facing technical translation and many other things to add
I hope you will all get benefit from this forum

The term technical is not confined to natural science and technology. Any specialist field has its own technical terms and its own genre genre -marking characteristics : a look at a hobbies magazine , a review of the rock scene , or the soprt section in a news paper,is enough to confirm this .

texts in these and any other specialized fields are probably speaking "technica " . It is simply to avoid the cumbersome of repeating the word natural - scientific and technological , here we shall be applying the term technical to texts written in the context of natural-scientific or technological discplines

Many problems face translators when trying to translate technically. these problems are divided into two categories : lexical problems and conceptual problems.

Lexical problems in technical translation
this kind of problem arises from the use of the following three types of ST terms.
1- Technical terms which are totlay unfamiliar to the lay translator, because they are used in technical context.
يعني المترجم معندوش أي فكرة المعني التقني لأن الكلمة دائما تستخدم من ناحية تقنية
2- Technical terms which are familiar to the translators because they are also used in non- technical contexts, but which look as if they are being used in some technically specialized way in the ST
يعني أن المترجم يعرف أكثر من معني للكلمة لأنه يجوز استخدامها في سياق غير تقني لكن المشكلة ان المترجم عارف ان هي هنا معناها تقني لكن لا يمكنه تحديد الأصح
example : كلمة مهني لها ثلاث معاني
Occupational
Vacational
Profissional
وهي جميعا يجوز استخدامها في السياق العادي لكن في السياق التقني لا يجوز
والكلمة التقنية الأصح المرادفة لمهني هي Occupational
3- Technical terms which are familiar to the translators because they are also used in non- technical contexts , but which do not abviously look as if they are being used in some technically specialized way in the ST
وهذه المشكلة شبيهة بالمشكلة الثانية مع وجود فرق حيث أن المترجم يعرف معاني الكلمة لوجودها في سياقات أخري غير تقنية ولكن الفرق أن المترجم لا يعي أنها هنا مستخدمة في سياق تقني فيترجمها لأي معني
for example :الجراثيم تترجم إلى Bacteria or Germs
Bacteria is a technical term while germs is the normal use.
مثال تاني
كلمة خدش لها اكثر من معني : scratch,graze,abrasion
في السياق التقني يعني في قطعة علمية عن دواء مثلا يترجم خدش إلى
scratch فقط ولا يجوز استخدام أي معنى أخر

Aouch , this is really demotivating . it seems to me that every body is interested in the practical side of translation ignoring the theoritical one
