One of the special occasions on the Muslim calendar is the Holy Month of Ramadan, during which Muslims perform a truthful act of obedience to divine orders. They obstain from eating, drinking, and smoking- among other a few things- from sunrise to sunset. When they are through with their regular work during the day, they join instructional circles at the Masjid, where they explore the meanings of the Holy Koran and discuss sections from Prophet Muhammad's honorable hadiths (sayings) that relate to the occasion of Ramadan. Children also has their share in Ramadan because they look forward to getting new clothes to wear. Children also enjoy the stories of the drummer (Musahharaati) who passes through the dark streets in the early morning to awaken sleepers for their pre-fasting meal (suhour). The highlight of the day during Ramadan is the first meal (Iftaar) where the family members gather at the dinning table with a feeling of relaxation. Ramadan is the time for Muslim individual to clean his soul from whatever evils found in his/her heart, and fulfill his/her obligations toward the poor, the sick, and the suffering
