How to Steal Photoshop

Adobe has just come out with a new version of Photoshop CS. It's called, appropriately, Photoshop CS 2. You shouldn't steal it. Stealing software is wrong, a lot of work, and it rarely works as well as it would if you had paid for it.

But if you're gonna, here's how I'd recommend going about it:


Download the trial version here. It is huge; over 300 MB. If you don't have a high speed connection, you might as well forget it.

Download the keygen here. Keygen is short for key generator. It's a little program that will generate both the serial number and activation number needed to unlock your program. This one is particularly nice; it has cool artwork, and plays suspenseful cracking music!

Both files you've just downloaded are in archived form; either .ZIP or .RAR. I forget which. If you are baffled by the opening of archived files, move your eyeballs to the right side of your screen and click on the tutorial for ZIP and RAR files.
Open the keygen file first, then the actual program.
Start the Photoshop install. The program will ask you if you want to install the trial version, or if you have a serial number to install the full version. Enter the serial number you generated with the keygen.

Photoshop will continue its installation. Towards the end, Photoshop will tell you it needs to be activated before it will be fully useful. Read this page carefully. Don't skim it. Read it from start to finish.
Click around to read more about your activation options. You are looking for the page that will let you activate by phone.
When you get to the phone activation page, the serial number you entered earlier will be listed, and underneath it will be printed an activation number. It is written in kinda small print. Read the whole page carefully. Enter the activation number into the keygen and click "generate authorization code".

Enter the authorization code generated into Photoshop.

If you can't figure out the activation thing, DO NOT email me about it. I guarantee the problem is that you didn't read the directions fully. And for heaven's sake, don't call the people at Adobe. You only get to do that if you pay for the software. They get testy about helping people rip off the products that put bread on their tables.

I've read that CS2 is a little buggier than CS 1, and can hang in beteen tasks, but I haven't experienced any problems. Then again, I haven't had enough time to fully experiment, so I can't say for sure. Keep your old version around until you decide you want to keep the new one. And if you do decide to keep the new one, you should pay for it.

One last thing: don't do this and run around bragging about what a hacker you are. This is baby stuff, and any real hacker is going to chew you up and spit you out.
